Are you hooked on one of the latest portable devices? There have never been so many portable devices in use as there are today. They are popping up everywhere. Some prefer the new tablet computer from Apple called the iPad. You’ll see many that are using one of the other tablets including the Tab from Samsung or the many other devices that run the Android operating system from Google. There are also the dedicated readers like the Sony Reader and the famous Kindle from Amazon. Smartphones are growing in power and now have more power than some of the earlier desktop computers. Many of these devices have GPS installed so you can know your location. Portable MP3 players aren’t needed as much as before, because most phones can provide the same function, unless they are very small and light. How are people using these gadgets?
How they are Being Used
You’ll see people in coffee shops all over town tapping on the screen of their tablet. In many places, the iPad is by far the most popular. You’ll also see people with one off the readers seriously involved in an eBook while on the train, bus or coffee shop. Even McDonald’s has a serious cyber-crowd that enjoys using their portable devices. The most common device and function by far is the mobile phone. Children and adults, moms and dads – even grandparents – are SMSing each other to stay in touch. The SMS is much more convenient and inexpensive compared to making a call. Reminders like: “Don’t forget to pick up bread.” and “I love you.” are being sent countless times each day. The portable MP3 players, if small enough, are being used by joggers to listen while they run.
The Latest and the Greatest
It seems a new device comes out each day. The Samsung galaxy Tab 10.1 is hitting store shelves in some markets while people anticipate the new iPad. Smart phones from all makers compete for attention. The iPhone 4 is coming any day and the new mobile phones sporting Windows Phone 7 – or Mango – are creating quite a buzz. The Nook reader has a new color version for a great price and the Kindle is said to be preparing its own version of the tablet computer.
Present and Future Benefits
The new portable devices are making life that much easier. Productivity is going up because people can perform all kinds of tasks from almost anywhere. Catch up on the news while having breakfast without having to buy a newspaper. Send a message without making a call or waiting for the person to be free. Listen to your favorite music to inspire and stimulate you while you exercise. Work on your next novel on the subway, the bus or a coffee shop. Use Skype from your portable device and communicate for free with friends around the world. The future holds many functions that are making life easier. Many of these functions are already being tested and implemented in some places. You can pay at the grocery store with your mobile phone. Shops can send you a coupon when you walk past. Meeting new friends is possible if you have the function enabled and they are nearby. The world has been transformed by the latest portable devices. We can only imagine what will arrive over the next few years.
